Finance Manager
Lead group finance and reporting, optimize cash flow, and turn commercial numbers into real outlet profit growth.
About the role
EMAX is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to lead the full finance and accounting function across its group of companies. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will manage the finance team, ensure accurate and timely entity and consolidated reporting, take ownership of cash-flow management, and strengthen financial controls and existing finance SOPs.
This role combines strong accounting execution with commercial analysis. You will translate financial information into practical recommendations on outlet profitability, working capital, costs and business performance, working closely with Operations and other departments.
Key responsibilities
1. Finance operations and group reporting
Lead day-to-day finance operations across group entities, covering general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and month-end closing.
Review full sets of accounts, journals, bank reconciliations and balance-sheet schedules; resolve discrepancies and outstanding items promptly.
Own the preparation and delivery of monthly entity and consolidated group management accounts in alignment with EMAX’s approved Financial & Operational Economics framework, including intercompany matching and eliminations. Develop and maintain supporting outlet profitability reports, revenue and customer-obligation reconciliations, cost-attribution schedules, and connected P&L, balance-sheet and cash-flow analysis. Ensure financial outputs reconcile to the underlying accounts and explain material variances, risks and recommended actions in management commentary.
Develop and implement this reporting under the Financial Controller’s direction, using approved definitions and accounting policies. Proposed changes to accounting treatment, cost attribution or reporting methodology require appropriate review and approval before implementation.
Establish and enforce closing calendars, submission standards and review procedures to deliver accurate monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
Ensure financial reporting complies with the applicable Malaysian financial reporting framework and approved group accounting policies; escalate significant accounting judgements to the Financial Controller.
2. Cash flow, budgeting and working capital
Own group cash-flow forecasting, liquidity monitoring and working-capital analysis, supported by entity-level submissions.
Maintain a rolling cash-flow forecast, reconcile actual movements against forecasts and highlight funding requirements and cash risks early.
Coordinate payment priorities and recommendations within approved authority limits; maintain separation between preparation, review and payment release.
Lead annual budgeting, periodic forecasts and variance analysis in collaboration with department heads.
Recommend actions to improve collections, supplier-payment planning, inventory utilisation and cash discipline.
3. Business performance and profitability
Prepare outlet, entity and group profitability analysis, explaining revenue, cost, margin and operational performance drivers.
Produce physical-outlet profitability reporting at L1 (Local Operating Result), L2 (Outlet Operating Profit) and L3 (Fully Loaded Outlet Profit), using approved definitions and documented cost-allocation rules, with L2 as the primary outlet operating-performance measure. Distinguish traceable shared-service costs, recurring corporate overhead and strategic/growth expenditure; account for shared premises and resources and reconcile all costs to group accounts without double counting.
Work with Operations, Procurement and other functions on inventory and consumables accounting, stock valuation, cost allocation and reconciliation.
Develop reconciled reporting that distinguishes invoiced sales, cash collections, services delivered, earned revenue and outstanding customer package obligations under approved accounting policies.
Support pricing, package and service-cost analysis, break-even assessments and business proposals with clear assumptions and sensitivity analysis.
Supply validated financial information for management dashboards and decision-making, working with operational and system/data owners.
4. Internal controls and finance SOP ownership
Take ownership of the existing finance SOP framework: review, maintain, standardise and enforce approved procedures rather than replacing them unnecessarily.
Maintain a controlled SOP register covering document owners, versions, approval status, effective dates and review dates.
Coordinate updates to payment requests, petty cash, documentation, refunds, merchant/card processes, reconciliations, closing, cash flow, inventory and reporting procedures.
Identify missing or outdated procedures, draft improvements and obtain the required approvals before implementation.
Train the team, monitor compliance, investigate exceptions and track corrective actions. Coordinate cross-department procedures with the relevant process owners.
5. Audit, tax and statutory compliance
Coordinate external audits, statutory accounts, tax schedules and information requests with auditors, tax agents, company secretaries and other advisers.
Oversee applicable SST, withholding tax and e-Invoice processes, reconciliations and compliance deadlines across entities.
Maintain a compliance calendar, audit-ready supporting records and follow-up of audit findings.
Work within approved mandates for filings and payments, seeking specialist advice where required.
6. Team leadership and process improvement
Allocate entity portfolios and responsibilities, review output and manage workloads, deadlines, performance and development.
Coach the team through practical accounting and reconciliation issues and establish appropriate backup coverage.
Conduct regular finance reviews, maintain an issue/action register and escalate material risks with proposed solutions.
Partner with IT and operational teams on accounting-system improvements, ERP implementation, data validation and automation while retaining Finance ownership of financial controls and reconciliations.
Requirements
Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICAEW or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage; MIA membership is an added advantage.
At least 6 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, including at least 2 years in a team-leading or supervisory capacity.
Proven hands-on experience in full-set accounting, multi-entity closing, group consolidation, intercompany eliminations and management reporting.
Demonstrated capability in cash-flow forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis and financial controls.
Working knowledge of the applicable MFRS/MPERS framework, Malaysian tax and statutory requirements, SST, withholding tax and e-Invoice processes.
Experience maintaining and improving finance SOPs, implementing controls and coaching staff to follow them.
Strong Excel and accounting/ERP skills; experience with reporting tools, data reconciliation or finance automation is an advantage.
Strong analytical judgement, attention to detail, integrity and the ability to communicate financial issues clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
What success looks like
Timely, accurate entity and consolidated accounts with supported reconciliations.
Reliable cash visibility and early escalation of liquidity risks.
Clear ownership and consistent application of existing finance SOPs.
A capable, accountable finance team with fewer recurring errors and unresolved items.
